Throughout our lives, we face moments when we can do something that matters (but is difficult) or not doing something because it is too difficult.
The Choice Point is a tool used in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help us see where we are going (in line with our values or not) and the stuff (the thoughts, feelings and circumstances) that get in the way.
The diagrams below from Russ Harris illustrate how we can use the Choice Point for specific situations that we face in our lives.
AWAY: Reacting to difficult emotions and NOT doing what we feel is important OR NOT being the person we want to be.
TOWARD: Doing what you feel is important and acting according to what matters to you and what you value.
HELPERS: Those things that bring value and importance to your life: the people you care about, what matters to you, the activities and areas of your life that are important.
